On Sunday, July 10, I completed the seventh installment of “214 Trans4m,” my photo series about Dallas’ architecture, design, history and stereotypes that features transgender models.
This latest segment highlights Dallas’ cosmetic empress, Mary Kay Ash: a gender revolutionary for women in the workplace, and a multi-level entrepreneur ... (with many former beauty consultants who feel spurned by a Pink Pyramid Scheme.)
Sunday's temperature at 4 p.m. was triple-digit hell.

We lucked out and were able to get ready inside the refrigerated coolness of The Rose Room's dressing quarters.
Dallas’ best comedic emcee, James Love (aka Cassie Nova), turned out Ash’s spooky-dead smile.
Emmy-nominated hair wiz Charles Yusko cut and curled a hairpiece that — when placed on James’ head — magically resurrected Mary Kay’s spirit and immediately possessed James’ soul.
Richard D. Curtin styled the impeccable executive-realness wardrobe.
Photographer and project collaborator Bryan Amann rolled on the grass to frame the shot.
And Juan Facio designed Mary Kay’s vintage logo for the pyramid prop, rolled cameras, drove a getaway car and kept on the lookout for the popo while we shot on location at Mary Kay’s guarded Addison headquarters.
We were in and out of the location in less than 11 minutes.
The photo project will be exhibited at the Magnolia Gallery (inside the Magnolia Theater).
The show runs Sept. 7 to Oct. 12. Opening Reception: Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011. From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
